A well-made ring asks very little of you. A few habits, kept lightly, will keep it looking as it did the day it arrived.
Cleaning at home
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Let the ring soak for ten minutes, brush gently around and beneath the setting where lotion and soap collect, rinse under warm water and dry with a lint-free cloth. Once a week is ample for a ring worn daily. Toothpaste, baking soda and household cleaners are too abrasive for gold and platinum; please avoid them.
When to take it off
Before the gym, where a bar or a weight can bend a prong. Before swimming: chlorine dulls the finish and cold water shrinks the finger. Before cleaning, gardening, or applying lotion, sunscreen or fragrance. And before bed, where sheets and hair catch on prongs and, over years, loosen them.
Storing it
Separately from other pieces, in the box it came in or a lined dish, so that nothing harder can scratch it. Diamond is the hardest material there is, and two diamonds stored together will mark each other.
The six-month check
Every six to twelve months, send your piece to us. We inspect every stone under magnification, tighten anything that has moved, clean and polish it, and return it. During your first six months this is complimentary under your warranty; afterward, it is quoted in advance at the cost of the work. It takes minutes, and it is how a loose stone is caught before it is lost. Write to concierge@ringpremier.com and we will send a prepaid return label.
White gold
White gold is plated with rhodium to give it its bright, mirror finish. With daily wear the plating softens over one to three years and the metal beneath shows a faint warmth. Re-plating restores it completely and is part of your six-month check.
Platinum
Platinum does not plate or fade. It develops a soft satin patina with wear that many people prefer; a polish returns it to high shine at any time.
